2002 Editorial Calendar

ABILITY Magazine is the contemporary magazine of Health, Disability and Human Potential. Its editorial direction is unique, providing advertisers access to the largest and fastest growing minority in the country—56 million people. In addition, ABILITY Magazine is an ideal vehicle to promote your company's commitment to cultural diversity.

The editorial of ABILITY Magazine not only targets people with disabilities, but businesses and individuals associated with health and disability issues as well. ABILITY Magazine interviews well-known personalities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Anthony Edwards, Mary Tyler Moore, Jack Lemmon, Marie Osmond, President Clinton and Senator Bob Dole, about disability-related issues and causes. In addition, ABILITY provides information about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workforce diversity and new technologies. Event coverage, company and/or CEO profiles, movie and book reviews, travel, humor therapy, editor's choice products and comprehensive national and regional support center yellow pages can also be found in the pages of ABILITY

Because one of ABILITY’s goals is to stay current with the major trends and technologies impacting people with disabilities, it is the magazine’s policy to maintain a flexible Editorial Calendar. Current editorial plans for 2002 are as follows:

Vol. 2002: Issue I
Adaptive technology: Windows XP breaks new ground. Academy Award winning documentary: Interview with "King Gimp" Dan Keplinger. 2002 Paralympics: Salt Lake City Feature Article. Horseback riding: Therapeutic Uses. President Bush's New Freedom Initiative Act: How employment for people with disabilities is affected.

Vol. 2002: Issue II
Psychiatric Drugs for Children: Actress Marsol Nichols and others discuss the growing use of psychiatric drugs in schools. Assistive Technology : Introduction of Product Highlight section. New Careers: How to get the job that is right for you, and how to hire the right person for your company.

Vol. 2002: Issue III
Bill Porter and "Door to Door": Feature Article. Popular Culture and Disabilities: From Barbie dolls to Oscar winning movies the image of people with disabilities is gaining a new profile. New Mobility Technology: Dean Kamen and the IBot. Entertainment Preview: Get the inside story on this summer’s hottest movies and trends.

Vol. 2002: Issue IV
Disabilities and the Family: an article encompassing the ADA, health insurance and the Family & Medical Leave Act, and how they are defining the manner in which families deal with disabilities. Health & Nutrition: articles revolving around nutrition related to different disabilities and health problems with recipes from nutritional experts and celebrities. Employment: Hiring the best person for the job.

Vol. 2002: Issue V
National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Communities, Computers & the Net: Stories of how computers are changing the workplace and homes of people with disabilities. Breast Cancer: The latest research, news and human interest stories from those afflicted with breast cancer and those working on treatments and a cure. A look at Diversity in the Workplace.

Profiles of companies and their newly developed products. ABILITY’s Year in Review: A look at 2002, with an overview of the year’s happenings and developments in the realm of health and disabilities. Employee Satisfaction: A listing of the top companies in the country for employee satisfaction.
