First Wheelchair Accessible Taxicab Service in Washington, DC

The first full-service, wheelchair-accessible taxi service in the District of Columbia, rollDC, will soon be available to the more than 12,000 DC residents who use wheelchairs, as well as to visitors from around the country—and around the world—who use wheelchairs and plan to visit the national’s capital in the years ahead.

RollDC will launch Thursday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. EST, at Council of Governments Plaza, 777 N. Capitol St., NE, Washington, DC. The event will not only include demonstrations of the new accessible taxis, Toyota Sienna’s equipped with ramps, but also will also honor those who helped make this service a reality for DC. The 20 accessible taxis will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are funded through the Federal Transit Administration, the DC Taxicab Commission and the Yellow Cab and Royal Cab Companies.
